Listen first, listen second, understand, speak last.
I’ve had such Great feedback from writing on Success Habits, that I’ve decided to make it a regular Habit. (Come on, you knew I had to say it.)
Success Habit: Never underestimate the importance and the power of listening.
I was at a business luncheon the other day where the guest speaker was a memory improvement expert. While talking about how to improve our recall of names for people we meet, he brought up a very interesting point.
He said, that one of the reasons we have difficulty in remembering names when we meet new people, is that we are too busy thinking about what we want to say next, and don’t pay attention to what the other person is saying. In other words, we aren’t really listening.
“The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them.”
–Ralph Nichols
This week, see if you are really listening when people are talking to you. Try to clear your thoughts and hear what they are saying.
I wish for you all the success that you strive to achieve.
Sincerely,
Edward Aldama
